WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 5, 2026) -- King's College Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation Andy Orlowski announced on Monday that Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Katy Higinbothom has stepped down from her position after four seasons leading the Monarchs program and has accepted the head women's lacrosse coaching position at Widener University.
Â
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have spent the past four years leading the women's lacrosse program at my alma mater," said Higinbothom. "King's has been such an important part of my life and having the chance to give back to a place that gave so much to me has been incredibly meaningful."
Â
A 2019 King's graduate and former Monarch student-athlete, Higinbothom totaled 47 points on 30 goals and 17 assists across two seasons with the women's lacrosse program while also competing for the King's field hockey team. In 2023, she returned to her alma mater to lead the women's lacrosse program, becoming just the seventh head coach in program history.
Â
During her tenure as head coach, Higinbothom guided five All-MAC Freedom selections, including three Second Team honorees and two Honorable Mention recipients. Her teams also excelled in the classroom, producing eight Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll selections and earning IWLCA Academic Honor Squad recognition on two occasions.
Â
"I am especially grateful for the student-athletes I have had the opportunity to coach, learn from, and grow alongside, along with all my colleagues and members of the King's community that I've had the honor to collaborate with," Higinbothom expressed.
Â
"I want to thank Katy for her dedication to King's College and the impact she has made on our student-athletes and campus community," said Orlowski. "As a King's alumna, Katy has represented her alma mater with pride and passion throughout her time here. While we are certainly sad to see her leave, we are excited for her as she begins this next chapter at Widener University. We wish her continued success."
Â
Over four seasons at the helm of the program, Higinbothom helped guide the continued growth and development of the Monarchs on and off the field. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, she played an instrumental role in recruiting future Monarchs, managing the program's operating budget, and leading fundraising efforts. Beyond competition, she remained committed to fostering the academic, athletic, and personal success of her student-athletes while strengthening the program's connection to the King's community.
Â
"I will always look back on my time at King's with gratitude and pride, and I am excited to see all that is ahead for this program," Higinbothom said.
Â
King's will immediately begin a national search for its next head women's lacrosse coach.
