KING'S FOOTBALL FALLS TO LEBANON VALLEY, 54-7

GAME BOX SCORE

ANNVILLE – Senior tailback Ben Guiles rushed for 140 yards on 12 carries and scored three touchdowns and the Lebanon Valley defense posted nine quarterback sacks as the host Flying Dutchmen posted a 54-7 victory over King's College in the Middle Atlantic Conference finale for both teams Saturday at Arnold Field.

With the win, Lebanon Valley improved to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the MAC. King's slipped to 1-8 and 1-7 in conference games.

Lebanon Valley came flying out of the gates on the first play from scrimmage when Guiles raced 58 yards for a touchdown. Sean Fakete added the extra-point as the Dutchmen took a 7-0 lead at the 14:43 mark.

King's took over at its own 40 following the ensuing kickoff and began to drive. Quarterback Bryant Klein rushed for 11 yards, before Delano Mullings carried for nine, then added two yards for a first down at the Lebanon Valley 39. Mullings then added six yards more yards before Klein found Chris Green on a five-yard completion for a first down at the 19. After Mullings rushed for eight yards, the Monarch rookie added four yards for a first and goal at the seven. On the next play, however, Mullings fumbled at the one-yard line and Lebanon recovered in the end zone to thwart the Monarch scoring threat.

The Dutchmen then used a 18-yard pass to Matt Mankiewicz, followed by a 28-yard pass to Darryl Sweeper to the King's 21. Tim Picerno then caught a nine-yard pass from Colt Zarilla to the King's 10. The drive stalled and Sean Fakete made good on a 34-yard field goal as Lebanon Valley built a 10-0 lead with 5:08 left in the first quarter.

King's was forced to punt and Lebanon Valley took over at their own 15. The Dutchmen went right back to work when Picerno caught a bubble pass on a third-and-six near the left sideline and burst 67-yards to the King's 14. Two plays later Guiles would reach the end zone on a seven-yard run. Fakete made good on the conversion kick as the Dutchmen stretched the lead to 17-0 with 0:17 left in the first quarter.

The Monarchs looked to respond on its next possession when Mullings used two carries to total 13 yards, giving the Monarchs a first down at its own 45. A short run and second down sack, however, left King's with a third-and-14 play from its own 42. From there, an incomplete pass forced a Monarch punt.

Taking over at the Monarch 47, the Dutchmen again struck quickly again when Zarilla found Yahya McIntyre on a first-down 47-yard scoring strike. The extra-point kick upped the Lebanon Valley lead to 24-0 with 9:44 remaining in the half.

King's was forced to punt again and the Dutchmen took over at the Monarch 41 following a short 14-yard punt by King's. Lebanon Valley used a 16-yard run on first down by Pete Panichi to reach the King's 24. After a two-yard loss, Zarilla hit Jake Ziegler for a 26-yard Dutchmen touchdown, stretching the lead to 31-0 with 6:17 left in the opening stanza.

King's had an opportunity to score just before the half as the Monarchs moved to the Lebanon Valley 35-yard line following an eight-yard scramble by Klein. But King's allowed an additional 0:17 to run off the clock before finally calling a time-out with 0:05 left. From there, Klein again scrambled free and reached the Dutchmen two-yard line as time expired.

King's looked to gain a level of momentum when Jay Torres returned the second half kickoff 66 yards to the Dutchmen 19. After a short gain, fullback Jordan Haddock picked up a first down with a 10-yard run to the nine. After a two-yard run by Mullings, King's reached the end zone when Klein found Torres in the right corner end zone for a seven-yard scoring play. It marked Klein's first career touchdown pass. Mike Lloyd added the extra-point as King's cut the lead to 31-7 with 12:50 left in the third quarter.

Lebanon Valley, though, immediately answered on the third play of its next drive when Guiles broke free off right tackle for a 41-yard touchdown run, his third score of the day. The extra-point kick pushed the score to 38-7 with 11:46 remaining in the third period as Lebanon Valley was able to respond to the King's score just 1:04 later.

King's looked to answer on its next possession with completions of nine and eight yards to Haddock and a seven-yard scramble by Klein that moved the ball to the Lebanon Valley 47. Facing a third-and-four form the Dutchmen 41, Klein was sacked for the eighth time in the game as Lebanon Valley took over at midfield.

Two possessions later with King's at its own seven-yard line, the Dutchmen defense came up with its ninth quarterback sack of the game when Klein was dropped in the end zone for a safety, giving Lebanon Valley a 40-7 lead with 4:07 left in the third quarter.

The Dutchmen used a one-yard quarterback sneak by Blair Ransom, then added a three-yard run by Conrad Heisey as the Lebanon Valley lead swelled to 54-7 with 8:47 to play.
Lebanon Valley outgained King's 542-169 in total yards while holding a 22-13 advantage in first downs. Zarilla added to the Dutchmen attack by completing 13-of-23 passes for 285 yards and two scores. Picerno made five receptions for 105 yards to aid the Dutchmen cause.

For King's, Mullings rushed for 62 yards on 21 carries in his first career start. Klein completed 9-of-20 passes doe 70 yards and one touchdown, but was sacked nine times. Torres made three catches for 35 yards and one score while Haddock also made three receptions for 20 yards.

Ryan Kelly and Ryan Cordingly led King's defensively with eight tackles each while Jim McHugh and Matt Henry posted seven stops each.

King's will wrap up its season Saturday when the Monarchs travel to Bethany, WV to play Bethany College in a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
