DOYLESTOWN -- Celia Rader (left) and Lindsay Atchison combined for 34 points as the King's College women's basketball team posted an important 80-62 Freedom Conference road victory over host Delaware Valley College Wednesday night in Doylestown.

With the win, King's improved to 14-8 overall and 8-3 in Freedom Conference play. The Lady Monarchs remain in a first-place tie for the league lead with Misericordia after the Cougars defeated DeSales 71-54. King's, Misericordia, and DeSales entered the evening locked in a three-way tie for the conference lead. Delaware Valley, meanwhile, fell to 9-12 and 3-8.

King's came out of the gates on fire as Celia Rader and Brittany Muscatell drained back-to-back three-pointers to give the Lady Monarchs quick 6-0 lead. After an Aggie bucket, the Lady Monarchs responded with a short jumper from Katlin Michaels, a three-pointer by Lindsay Atchison, and one-of-two foul shots from Paige Carlin to built an 12-2 advantage after just 4:12 of play.

After Delaware Valley closed to within 18-10, the Lady Monarchs answered with 9-0 spurt, keyed by consecutive three-pointers by Rader as King's took a 27-10 lead with 10:28 on the clock.

The Aggies scored four straight points, but Simcox scored on a driving lay-up and Atchison added a bucket and three-pointer as the King's lead grew to 34-14 with 7:39 left in the half.

Delaware Valley attempted to fight back and used a 16-6 run to close to within 40-26 at the 3:33 mark, but King's responded with a three-pointer from Jessica McHugh and two foul shots by Carlin to take a 45-28 lead at the break.

In the second half King's upped the lead to 52-30 following a traditional three-point play from Michaels with 7:17 to play. The Lady Monarchs continued to pour it on and built its biggest lead of the game at 65-38 with 10:14 left in the contest following four straight points from Atchison and a jumper by Rader.

The Aggies, however, wouldn't quit and answered with a 24-6 run over the next 6:23 of play to close to within 71-62 with 3:51 to play.  King's however, regrouped and closed out the game with a 9-0 run to walk away with the victory.

Rader scored 17 points, including 5-of-7 from three-point range while Atchison also added 17 points along with a team-high nine rebounds. Michaels and Simcox tallied 11 points and four rebounds apiece. Carlin tallied seven points and five rebounds while Muscatell chipped in with six points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

The Aggies were led by Emily Soper with 19 points while Amanda Turowski added 11. King's did an admirable job of containing Aggie standout guard Brittany Battinieri who scored just three points on 1-of-8 shooting. Battinieri entered the game 13.3 points and had attempted 174 three-pointers on the year. She managed to get off only one three-pointer in the entire contest against King's.

The Lady Monarchs return to action Saturday when the Lady Monarchs travel to Center Valley for a critical contest with DeSales. Tip-off time is set for 1:00 p.m.
