KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE POSTS SCHOOL RECORD 26 GOALS IN WIN OVER CEDAR CREST
WILKES-BARRE -- Sophomore Chelsea Manes tied a school record with 10 points as 10 different Lady Monarchs reached the scoring column in a 26-1 win over visiting Cedar Crest College Monday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. The 26 goals broke a school record for most goals in one game, surpassing the previous mark of 25 set in 2006 against Chestnut Hill College. The win also snapped a 34-game losing skid for King's over the past three seasons.
King's moves to 1-0 on the young season. Cedar Crest drops to 1-1 overall.
King's scored early and often racing out to an 11-0 lead midway through the first half. Cedar Crest finally got on the board with eight minutes left in the half, as the Lady Monarchs took a commanding 14-1 lead into the break. King's then scored 12 unanswered tallies in the second frame to post the non-league victory.
The Falcons lone goal came from Rachel Rush. King's goalie Megan Withrow made two saves in net, while Cedar Crest keeper Kim Katsigianis finished with five stops.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Wednesday when they travel to Marywood University for a non-conference tilt scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Scranton.
