LADY MONARCH LAXERS FALL SHORT ON THE ROAD, 22-13 TO MARYWOOD
SCRANTON -- Taylor McKeown scored seven goals and dished out two assists to lead the Marywood University women's lacrosse squad to a 22-13 non-conference victory over visiting King's College Wednesday night in Scranton.
With the win, marywood improved to 2-2 while King's slipped to 1-1.
King's took a 2-0 lead 3:05 into the the game after goals by Kristina Villareal and Ally Gourniak. Marywood, however, responded by outscoring King's 13-2 the rest of the half to take a 14-4 lead at the halftime break.
The Lady Monarchs used goals by Catherine McMahon and Amanda Harney to cut the lead to 14-6 early in the second half, but Marywood answered with a pair of goal to stretch the leaf to 16-6 with 24:11 left in the match.
King's attempted to fight back and goals by Chelsea manes and Villareal whittled the lead to 16-8 with 21:25 on the clock. But Marywood again countered with two quick scores of its own to push the lead to 18-8 with 20:39 to play.
The teams traded two-goal spurts for the fifth time in the second half when Harney and Manes struck net for the Lady Monarchs to close the gap to 18-10 with 16:58 remaining, but Marywood scored the next three goals to take a comfortable 21-10 lead with 10:55 to go.
King's tallied three of the final four goals of the game, using scores from Harney, Sarah O'Doherty, and Sarah Alesso to bring the final score to 22-12.
Villareal led King's with three goals and one assist while Harney also added three goals. Manes netted two goals with an assist while O'Doherty netted two goals. Alesso and McMahon scored once each while Megan Withrow posted 14 saves in goals.
Joining McKeown among the Pacer leaders was Diana D'Achille and Sarah Caughy with four goals each. Allie Sodie followed with three scores while Megan Planz posted 13 saves
King's returns to action Monday when the Lady Monarchs travel to Chester to face Widener University in a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
