King's Women's Lacrosse Falls 19-8 Against Alvernia

KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS 19-8 AGAINST ALVERNIA IN MAC PLAY
 
WILKES-BARRE -- Alvernia midfielder Alyssa Verrillo scored four goals and assisted on three others to lead the visiting Crusaders to a 19-8 victory over King's College in Middle Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
 
With the loss King's falls to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in league play. Alvernia improves to 7-0 and remain unbeaten at 4-0 in conference games.
 
King's took an early 2-0 lead after goals from Amanda Harney and Sarah O'Doherty just five minutes into the first half. Alvernia answered back to tie the game at 2-2 after goals from Sarah George and Verrillo three minutes later. After King's Chelsea Manes found the back of the net to give the Lady Monarchs a 3-2 lead, Alvernia scored seven straight tallies to take a 9-3 lead with 8:03 left in the half. The Crusaders took a 10-4 lead into the break.
 
The second half proved to be much of the same as Alvernia outscored King's 9-4 in the frame.
 
Harney led King's with three goals on the afternoon, while Krystina Villarreal added two goals and an assist. Manes finished with two goals and O'Doherty with one tally.
 
Alvernia saw seven different players reach the scoring column in the win. George posted four goals and one helper, while Felicia Sippel and Allison Bainbridge each scored three times. Tonya Rutt added two goals.
 
King's goalie Megan Withrow finished with 15 saves in net, while Crusaders keepers Jennifer Czarnecki and Jessica Glace split time in net to record the win.
 
The Lady Monarchs will return to action Monday when they travel to FDU-Florham for a MAC contest at 4:00 p.m. in Madison, N.J.
