KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE UPENDED BY LEBANON VALLEY, 18-7
WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Lebanon Valley College broke open a close game at the half outscoring King's College 8-2 in the final frame on way to an 18-7 victory Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
With the loss King's slips to 3-7 overall and 2-6 in MAC play. Leb Val improves to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in league play.
Leb Val opened the contest scoring the first four goals taking a 4-0 lead after 14 minutes of play. From there, King's rallied to score three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 4-3 midway through the half. Allison Gourniak led off the scoring tear with an unassisted tally at the 16:17 mark. Sarah O'Doherty notched her first of the contest off an assist from Chelsea Manes, and Krystina Villarreal capped the run with an unassisted score with 14:49 left in the frame.
Catherine McMahon and Villarreal added goals late in the half for King's as Leb Val took a 10-5 advantage to the break.
The second half proved to be the difference as the visitors posted eight straight goals to start the half extending their lead to 18-5 with 16:12 to play. Villarreal completed her hat trick with a goal at the 12:04 mark, and Manes found the back of the net with 2:55 left to close the scoring for King's.
Leb Val held a 31-19 advantage in shots as well as collecting 29 ground balls to King's 24. King's goalie Megan Withrow finished with seven saves in net. Leb Val used a trio of keepers with Erica Ameigh posting the win with eight saves.
The Lady Monarchs will return to the field Saturday with a MAC matchup at Elizabethtown College at 1:00 p.m.
