BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS KING'S OMEN'S LACROSSE OVER WILKES, 13-7
WILKES-BARE -- Senior Sarah O'Doherty scored three goals and added one assist as the visiting King's College women's lacrosse team posted a 13-7 win over cross-town rival Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
With the win King's improves to 5-8 overall and 3-7 in MAC play. Wilkes drops to 3-12 overall and 0-10 in league matches.
Chelsea Manes continued her fine play, scoring King's first goal at the 28:01 mark of the first half. Teraya Overton extended the Lady Monarch lead to 2-0 just twenty seconds later with a goal off an assist from Amanda Harney.
Manes added her second strike of the contest off another Harney helper to give King's a 3-0 lead midway through the frame. The host Lady Colonels answered back scoring the games next three tallies to tie the game at 3-3 with 8:16 left until the break. O'Doherty notched her first goal followed by a Dana Coscia tally to give King's a slim 5-3 advantage heading to the half.
The second half belong to King's as the Lady Monarch offense exploded for eight goals on way to the road victory. O'Doherty added her second and third goals in the second frame as well as two strikes from Allison Gourniak and one from Harney. Andrea Alesso capped-off King's scoring with an even strength goal with :33 ticks left on the clock.
Manes, Gourniak, and Coscia each finished with two goals while Catherine McMahon, Harney, Alesso, and Overton each tallied one goal. King's goalie Megan Withrow finished with nine saves to record the win in ne. Wilkes keeper Cassie Cronin made 18 stops for Wikes.
King's returns to the field Tuesday when they host Manhattanville College at 4:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
