O'DOHERTY'S SIX GOALS LEAD KING'S WOMEN'S LAX OVER MISERICORDIA, 15-7
WILKES-BARRE -- Senior Sarah O'Doherty scored a career-high six goals to lead King's College to a 15-7 MAC win over visiting Misericordia University Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's improves to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in league play. Misericordia drops to 2-8 overall and remain winless at 0-7 in conference games.
O'Doherty struck first for King's with a goal at the 28:55 mark of the first half. Four minutes later, O'Doherty tallied her second of the game off an assisted from Krystina Villarreal to put the Lady Monarchs up 2-0. King's scored the next four goals of the contest to extend their lead to 6-0 midway through the frame. Chelsea Manes, Catherine McMahon (twice), and O'Doherty posted goals in the run.
Misericordia finally got on the board at the 12:54 mark when Catie Viegas found the back of the net. Manes and O'Doherty scored back-to-back for King's to keep the comfortable lead at 8-1. Following another Cougars goal, O'Doherty notched her fifth goal of the half and Amanda Harney added another to put the Lady Monarchs up 10-2 with just under two minutes left in the half. King's would take a 10-3 lead into the break.
King's scored five more times in the second half. Goals from Andrea Alesso, O'Doherty, Allison Gourniak, and Manes sealed the conference win for the Lady Monarchs. King's controlled the game from start to finish outshooting the Cougars 38-22.
Lady Monarch goalie Megan Withrow was solid in net finishing with nine saves. Misericordia keeper Colleen Hunt was equally impressive posting 15 stops despite the constant barrage of King's shots.
King's will take to the road Saturday at Arcadia University for a match scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
