King's Women's Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker At Arcadia, 10-9

KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE DROPS HEARTBREAKER AT ARCADIA, 10-9
 
GLENSIDE, PA -- The King's College women's lacrosse team rallied to tie the game at 9-9 late in the second half, but an Arcadia goal with 1:32 left in the contest sealed the 10-9 win for the host Knights in Middle Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
 
With the loss King'ss slips to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in conference matches. Arcadia improves to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in league play.
 
The host Knights jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to two goals from Stephanie Holguin and one from Jen Ng. King's responded with goals from Krystina Villarreal and Chelsea Manes to cut the lead to 3-2 with 17:51 left in the first half. After Arcadia scored to make the game 4-2, Manes struck again this time on a free position shot to bring King's to within one at 4-3 with 8:29 remaining. Arcadia would add one more tally before the break to lead 5-3 after one half of play.
 
In the second half, King's Allison Gourniak scored on a free position shot to cut into the lead once again, 5-4. After two more goals for the hosts, Villarreal and Sarah O'Doherty found the back of the net for the Lady Monarchs to keep them within striking distance at 7-5 with 18:01 left.
 
Goals from Amanda Harney and Manes pulled King's to within one, 9-8, with just over seven minutes to play. Harney would complete the King's comeback when she scored with 6:59 on the clock tying the game at 9-9.
 
From there, Arcadia's Meghan Fallon took a Ng assist and beat Lady Monarch keeper Megan Withrow to put the Knights ahead 10-9. King's had several scoring opportunities in the final minute, but were unable to tie the game and force overtime.
 
Manes led the Lady Monarch attack with three goals. Harney was equally impressive finishing with two goals and two assists. Villarreal added two goals, while O;Doherty and Gourniak each tallied one score.
 
Withrow made 10 saves in net facing 26 Arcadia shots. The Knights held a slight 31-25 advantage in ground balls throughout.
 
King's will next host Lebanon Valley College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
