KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HEADING TO MISERICORDIA FOR BATTLE OF TOP-TWO FREEDOM CONFERENCE SQUADS

WILKES-BARRE -- With just two games left in the regular-season, the King's College women's basketball team will look to fine tune itself for next week's Freedom Conference Tournament. The Lady Monarchs will attempt to do so Tuesday night against a formidable opponent when King's travels to meet fellow league contender Misericordia at 6:00 p.m. in the Anderson Center.

Having already locked up the top seed and home court advantage throughout the Freedom Conference playoffs, King's takes a 20-3 overall record, a 12-0 league mark, and a 13-game winning streak into the matchup. With King's playoff standing secure, the contests looms especially important for a Misericordia team that is currently in second-place in the Freedom Conference with a 14-9 overall record and a 9-3 league mark. The Cougars are looking to earn the second seed and a Freedom Conference semi-final home contest and stand one game ahead of Eastern and DeSales who are tied for third with 8-4 conference records.

The game will feature the top two defensive teams in the Freedom Conference as both squads are allowing an identical 56.0 points per-game. The offenses are scoring at virtually the same rate - King's to the tune of 65.0 points while Misericordia averages 64.7 points. In the first meeting between the teams back on January 25 at King's, the Lady Monarchs pulled away down the stretch to post a closely-contested 51-44 win in a defensive struggle.

King's has featured a balanced attack throughout the season with seven different players posting game-highs in scoring. Senior guard-forward Paige Carlin stands as the team's leading scorer with a 11.7 points per-game average while adding 4.1 rebounds. Carlin also scored her 1,000th career point with 15 points against Manhattanville on Saturday. Senor forward Samantha Simcox follows with 11.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and a team-high 66 steals while connecting on 31 three-pointers.

Junior guard Katlin Michaels adds 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per-game while fellow junior guard Celia Rader tallies 9.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and a team-high 38 three-pointers. Freshman center Marissa Manning contributes 7.3 points and 4.4 rebounds while junior forward Lindsay Atchison has registered 5.9 points and 3.7 rebounds.

While King's has the top-seed in the conference already clinched, on the surface the game has little significance to the Lady Monarchs. King's, however, was ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic Regional last week and looks to maintain its lofty standing to help make a case for potential NCAA national tournament selection should the team fail to win the Freedom Conference Tournament.

The Cougars are led by standout senior center Christine Marks who averages 19.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per-game. Senior forward Jesse Robinson follows with 11.7 points and 4.6 rebounds while junior guard Tyann McDaniel adds 11.0 points and 51 three-pointers. Junior guard Hannah Seeley chips in with 10.8 points and 6.9 rebounds.

After the conclusion of the game, King's will return to action on Saturday when the Lady Monarchs travel cross-town to face city rival Wilkes University in the Marts Center.
