Lady Monarchs Close Out Regular Season at Cross-Town Rival Wilkes

Wilkes-Barre, PA— The King's College women's basketball team looks to bounce back from its first conference loss of the season when they travel to Wilkes for the regular season finale at the Marts Center Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

Last time out King's dropped a 68-56 decision to Misericordia Tuesday night which dropped the Lady Monarchs to 20-4 overall and 12-1 in the Freedom Conference. Wilkes lost to DeSales 66-54 on Tuesday and are now 6-18  and 1-12 in the league.

In the first meeting between the two teams the teams went into the locker room with the Lady Monarchs leading 26-22. King's came out of the half and opened up a huge lead and went on to win 68-47. Senior forward Samantha Simcox, who transferred to King's from Wilkes a season ago, led the Lady Monarchs in scoring with 19 points and six rebounds against her former team. Junior Celia Rader chipped in 13 points, four rebounds and four steals. Elena Stambone paced the Colonels with 17 points and four boards while Megan Kazmerski chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Monarchs have used strong defense to lift them to the top of the Freedom Conference. King's ranks second in the conference in scoring defense allowing just 56.5 points per game and are leading the Freedom in scoring defense in the 13 conference games giving up 55.3 points per contest. The Lady Monarchs  boast a +6.23 in turnover margin which is tops in the conference and 21st in the nation.

Wilkes is at the bottom of the conference in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The Colonels have scored an average of 61.9 points and are allowing 67.2 points per contest. Wilkes ranks second in the Freedom in 3-point field goal defense holding teams to .236 from beyond the arc.

Senior guard Paige Carlin leads King's offense with 11.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Simcox is a close second scoring 11.4 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds. Junior guard Katlin Michaels has been the trigger for the Lady Monarchs scoring 9.4 points, grabbing 5.8 boards and dishing out 5.0 assists per contest.

Rader has also chipped in 9.0 points per game and has connected on 40 triples this season. Freshman forward Marissa Manning has posted 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Manning has also blocked 32 shots which ranks third in the Freedom Conference.

Stambone has paced the Wilkes offense scoring 12.0 points per game off the bench to go with 3.0 rebounds per game. Kazmerski is also averaging double figure scoring with 11.8 points and 5.7 boards per contest. Whitney Connolly has added 8.9 points per game. Allison Walsh has chipped in 8.6 points and a team-high 8.6 rebounds per outing.

The Lady Monarchs are the Freedom Conference's top seed and will host Eastern in the opening round of the Freedom Conference tournament on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
