King's Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Win Over Cazenovia
Wilkes-Barre, PA-- The King's College women's lacrosse team started the home season in a big way earning a decisive 22-12 victory over Cazenovia Satruday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on goal by Christy Foster. The Lady Monarchs answered back with six unanswered goals including a pair of goals from Krystina Villareal and
Emily Foley.
Amanda Harney added a goal and three assists over tha span.
Trailing 6-1 with Cazenovia fought back with a goal from Foster and a pair of goals from Daejah Werntz to cut the lead to 6-4 with 16:30 to play in the first half. The Monarchs closed the half scoring eight goals and allowing just two to take a 14-6 lead to the break.
In the second half the Wildcats posted a pair of goals early to cut the King's lead to 14-8, but the Lady Monarchs picked up three goals from Foley and a goal each from
Chelsea Manes and Villareal to push the lead back to 19-8.
Cazenovia was able to get the lead down to eight, 19-11 with 7:21 remaining in the game, but never got any closer as King's ran out the clock to pick up the win.
Villareal lead all-scorers and tied the King's school-record for points in a game with 10 on six goals and four assists.
Amanda Harney chipped in three goals and four assists for seven points while Foley found the back of the net six times. Manes added six points on three goals and three helpers.
Mariah Masciarelli tallied four goals and an assist.
Defensively Jessica Omrod picked up six ground balls and also dished out an assist.
Kaitlyn Gustafson grabbed a pair of ground balls.
Megan Withrow picked up the win between the pipes with three saves.
Foster paced the Wildcat offense with four goals while Werntz tallied three goals. Alicia Priest picked up four points on two goals and two assists. Christina Marra took the loss in net making 11 saves.
The Lady Monarchs are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Alvernia for a 4:00 p.m. start.
