WILKES-BARRE – The King's College women's basketball team opened the game with a 21-2 run and never looked back as the Lady Monarchs posted a 66-41 Freedom Conference victory over host Wilkes University Wednesday in the Marts Center.

With the win, King's improved to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in Freedom Conference play while Wilkes fell to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in league competition.

King's came out of the gates quickly and with the game tied at 2-2, the Lady Monarchs went to work. Lindsay Atchison converted two foul shots before Celia rader buried a three-pointer for a 7-2 lead. Molly Dahl then scored inside for the Lady Monarchs before Kaitlin Michaels scored seven straight points to push the lead to 16-2 at the 15:00 mark.

After a Wilkes miss, Rader drained another trey and Atchison followed with two more foul shots, capping a 19-0 run, giving King's a 21-2 lead with 13:03 left in the half. After Wilkes finally converted a pair of foul shot, Jen Fabian scored inside for King's and Tara Zdancewicz added two shots from the foul line to stretch the score to 25-4 with 11:11 left.

In the second half both teams had trouble finding the bottom of the basket early on. King's used its aggressiveness to get to the foul line but the Lady Monarchs made just one-of-five attempts, sandwiched around a bucket by Rader, to hold a 45-22 lead with 11:02 left.

King's would eventually extend the lead to 54-26 on one-of-two Atchison foul shots and a steal and lay-up from Rader with 8:05 remaining. King's began to substitute liberally and Wilkes went on a 6-2 spurt to cut the score to 56-34 after a three-pointer by Lindsey Chester with 4:10 to play. The Lady Monarchs upped the lead back to 25 points when Zdancewicz converted a traditional three-point play to bring the score to 59-34 with 3:04 left.
