King's Swimmers Split with Leb-Val, Women Prevail while Short-Handed Men Fall

KING'S WOMEN'S SWIMMERS DEFEAT LEB-VAL WHILE MEN COME UP SHORT

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's and men's swimming teams picked up a split with visiting Lebanon Valley College Friday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.  The Lady Monarchs posted a 115-87 triumph over LVC while the men fell 116-83.

On the women's side, the Lady Monarchs put forth an outstanding effort, winning every event except the final relay.

Caroline Fitch captured the 1000-freestyle with a time of 11:48.58 as well as the 500-freestyle at 5:45.95. Brigid Wynn won the 200-freestyle at 2:04.16 as well as the 100-freestyle with a 58.26. Macawley Brown was the third Lady Monarch two-time winner with a victory in the 50-freestyle with a 26.29 and also in the 200-butterfly at 2:17.65.

Patricia Manning won the 200-individual medley at 2:24.08 and was second in the 200-backstroke with a 2:25.22. Erin McLin was a winner in the 200-backstroke with a 2:22.01.

The King's men competed short-anded as the Monarchs were without three of their top swimmers but put forth a quality effort.

Leading the men was Josh Shoemaker who was a winner in the 50-freestyle at 23.25 and in the 100-freestyle with a 51.57.  Andrew Reimann won the 1000-freestyle with a time of 11:25.94 while Justin Weilert touched first in the 500-freestyle at 5:34.73.

Joe Ciccarelli won the 200-individual medley at 2:10.81 and was second in the 200-backstroke with a 2:17.03 while Kyle Newton was second in the 200-butterfly with a 2:12.25 and was also second in the 200-freestyle at 1:54.45. Matt Dickson was second in the 200-breaststroke at 2:29.45

King's 400-freestyle relay team of Ciccarelli, Newton, Shoemaker, and Reimann were also winners with a time of 3:26.10.

King's returns to action tomorrow (Saturday) when both teams travel to Frederick, Md. To face Hood College in a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
