KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS FALL TO ALBRIGHT
READING -- The host Albright College women's lacrosse team opened a 11-4 half-time lead en route to posting an 18-8 victory over visiting King's College Saturday in Reading.
With the win Albright improved to 3-2 while the Lady Monarchs slipped to 2-3.
Albright scored the first four goals of the game before King's Alexandra Barber got the Lady Monarchs on the scoreboard with 10:00 left in the half. After another Albright goal, King's used back-to-back scores from Krystina Villarreal to cut the score to 5-3 with 10:29 remaining in the opening stanza.
But the Lions outscored King's 6-1 over the final 9:51 to take an 11-4 lead into the locker room. In the second stanza the Lions continued to build the lead, netting the first three goals of the final frame before King's Mariah Masciarelli found the back of the net to cut the score to 14-5 with 19:25 on the clock
Any hopes of a King's comeback were put to rest, however, when Albright went on a 3-0 spurt to stretch the lead to 18-6 with 3:15 left in the contest. Emily Foley and Amanda Harney added late goals for the Lady Monarchs.
Albright outshot King's 36-16 and owned a 21-11 advantage in ground balls. The Lions also won 15 draws compared to 13 for the Lady Monarchs.
Villarreal and Manes led King's with two goals each while Harney added one goal and one assist. Lady Monarch goalie Alisa Marino made 12 saves in net.
King's will next play host to Brockport State Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
