King's Women's Laxers Defeats Misericordia in Freedom Conference Play

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- Junior Amanda Harney tallied seven points leading the King's College women's lacrosse team to a 19-4 victory over visiting Misericordia Thursday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win the Lady Monarchs improved to 4-7 overall and evened their conference mark at 1-1 while the Cougars fell to 0-11, 0-2 in league play.

King's go out of the box early scoring the first four goals of the match to hold a 4-0 lead at the 20:21 mark capped by a free position goal from Alexandra Barber. The Cougars got on the board with 18:00 on the clock in the first half on a goal from Melina Juliano.

Chelsea Manes picked up back to back goals to spark another four goal spurt for the Lady Monarchs pushing the lead to 8-1 before a Brooke North goal cut the King's lead to 8-2. King's notched four more goals before the end of the first half to take a 12-2 lead into the half.

Amanda Harney scored the first goal of the second half to push the advantage to 13-2 before an Emily Hegner goal at 26:07 for the Cougars stopped the King's run. The Lady Monarchs would score the next six goals to put the game out of reach.

Harney finished the game with four goals and three helpers. Emily Foley added five points on four goals and one assist. Chelsea Manes and Mariah Masciarelli each chipped in three goals and one assist for four points. Krystina Villarreal added a pair of goals on six shots.

Notrh, Hegner, Juliano and Jenny Perucca each picked up a point on unassisted goals for the Cougars. Kate Pagnotta nad Catie Viegas each tallied three shots.

Alisa Marino picked up the win between the pipes for the Lady Monarchs making seven saves while only allowing four goals. Ericka Proctor made seven stops in the loss for Misericordia.

King's out shot Misericordia 31-18 while also scooping up 14 ground balls to the Cougars seven.

The Lady Monarchs continue Freedom Conference play on Saturday when they host Eastern University at McCarthy Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
