KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS POST 17-6 WIN OVER GWYNEDD-MERCY
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's lacrosse team built a 10-6 halftime lead but blew open the game with a 7-0 second-half onslaught as the Lady Monarchs posted a 17-6 non-conference victory over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's improved to 6-7 overall while Gwynedd-Mercy slipped to 3-11.
King's built a 6-3 lead with 18:51 remaining in the first half thanks to two goals ech from Emily Foley and Amanda Harney and three assists by Mariah Masciarelli. After the Griffins cut the lead to 6-4, the Lady Monarchs closed out the half with a 4-2 surge on the strength of a goal and assist from MasciarellI as the Lady Monarchs took a 10-6 lead at the half.
In the second stanza King's immediately went on the offensive, scoring five goals over the first 7:26 frame to build a commanding 15-6 advantage on a pair of goals by Foley and one goal each from Masciarelli and Krystina Villarreal.
Masciarelli finished the game with three goals and four assists while Foley tallied five scores. Manes registered four goals and one assist while Harney contributed three goals and an assist. Villarreal chipped in with two scores while Lady Monarch goalie Alisa Marino posted seven saves.
King's outshot the Griffins 30-17 while owning a huge 21-4 lead in draws. The Lady Monarchs also held a 16-15 in ground balls.
Danae Perryman led Gwynedd-Mercy with three goals and an assist while Dani Horn added two scores. Jenn Gydosh posted three assists.
King's returns to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Manhattanville College.
