KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS FALL SHORT AT MANHATTANVILLE, 21-16

PURCHASE, NY -- The King's College women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a five-goal halftime deficit as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 21-16 verdict to host Manhattanville College Saturday in Purchase, NY.

With the loss, King's slipped to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the Freedom Conference while Manhattanville
improved to 4-10 and 3-1 in league competition.

Casandra
Honovich scored four of her game-high seven goals and while Melissa Goncalves added three scores to out the Valiants on top 11-5 at the halftime break.

The Lady Monarchs made a determined second-half comeback, outscoring Manhattanville
8-3 thanks to three goals each from Mariah Masciarelli and Amanda Harney to draw to within 14-13 with 15:40 remaining.

But the Valiants
countered with four straight goals, two coming from Goncalves to extend the lead to 18-13 with 10:53 on the clock. The Lady Monarchs came to with four goals twice, the first coming at 18-14 after a Chelsea manes score at the 8:59 mark, then again on a goal from Harney with 1:43 left. But King's would draw no closer as Manhattanville added an insurance goal with 0:53 to play to set the final margin of victory.

Harney paced King's with five goals and two assists while Masciarelli
added four goals and one assist. Krystina Villarreal netted three goals while Manes followed with two more. Catherine McMahin and Emily Foley scored one goal each. King's goalie Alisa Marino made 13 stops.

Manhattanville led in shot 40-34 and also owned a 25-14 advantage in draws. King's posted a 18-15 lead in ground balls.

King's returns to action Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. matchup at cross-town rival Wilkes University.
