KING'S WOMEN FALL TO EASTERN, 65-50
WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's basketball team shot just 28.6 percent from the field and made only 30of-29 shots form three-point range as the Lady Monarchs fell to visiting Eastern University 65-50 Saturday afternoon in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the loss, King's slipped to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in Freedom Conference play while Eastern improved to 9-6 and 4-0
The teams played on even terms over the first 12:30 of the game as the teams were deadlocked at 15-15. But Eastern went on a 12-2 run over the next 11 minutes to build a 27-17 after a pair of free throws from Gina DiDomenico with 1:49 left in the opening half. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way as tyne Eagles took a 33-23 lead into the break.
In the second half Eastern took a 13-point lead when a traditional three-point play by Meaghan Nowak pushed the score to 36-23 just 0:16 into the final frame. The Lady Monarchs trimmed to the team to 36-27 after a three-pointer but
Jessica McHugh and open of two foul shots from
Marissa Manning. But Eastern countered with a decisive 46-27 10-0 surge ti take a 46-27 lead with 14:41 left after a DiDomenico three-pointer.
The Lady Monarchs would get to within 11 points on two occasions, the last coming when a three-pointer from Manning and a driving lay-up by
Kayla Feairheller cut the score to 61-50 with 3:12 to play. But King's wold draw no closer as Eastern walked away with the victory.
Manning led King's with 17 points and six rebounds while Feairheller followed with 16 points and eight boards. Fabian added four points, eight rebounds, and three blocks while
Kasey Seitz contributed four points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Tara Zdancewicz posted four points and three boards while
Jessica McHugh chipped in with three points and six rebounds. Eastern was paced by Nowak with 21 points and five rebounds. DiDomenico followed with 12 points and five boards while Emily Lavin tallied 10 points, 14 rebounds, and seven blocks.
King's returns to the court Wednesday when the Lady Monarchs host Wilkes at 6:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
