Feairheller and Manning Post Double-Doubles Against Susquehanna

Selinsgrove, Pa. -- Despite a pair of double-doubles from Kayla Feairheller and Marissa Manning the King's women's basketball team dropped a 79-68 decision to host Susquehanna Wednesday at Houts Gymnasium.

The Lady Monarchs held a 42-41 advantage after Feairheller netted a layup at the 15:55 mark. Susquehanna answered with a 16-7 run keyed by 11 points from Jonaida Williams to give the Crusaders a 58-48 lead with 9:44 remaining in the game.

King's battled back on six straight points by Manning to cut the lead to 58-54 with 6:34 remaining, Susquehanna tallied the next eight points to push the lead back to 66-54 with 4:34 to play. The Lady Monarchs only got as close as eight the rest of the way, but the Crusaders iced the game from the free throw line.

In the opening half the Lady Monarchs came out fast taking an early 7-2 advantage behind four points for Feairheller and three points from Manning. After a timeout the Crusaders went on an 11-5 spurt of their own to take a 13-12 lead.

After a Manning free throw at 7:23 cut the deficit to 20-18, Susquehanna went on an 8-2 run giving the Crusaders their biggest lead of the half 26-20. The Lady Monarchs were able to cut the halftime advantage to 30-29 with a 9-4 spurt to close out the first frame.

Feairheller netted a career high 27 points while also grabbing a team-leading 11 rebounds. She also connected on 7-of-9 shots from the foul line. Manning posted 17 points and 10 boards for her double-double. Shea Grim was the only other Lady Monarch to score in double figures with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Williams led the way for Susquehanna with 27 points while also pulling down six boards. Nikki Komara tallied a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Sofia Schedler added 12 points off the bench.

The Lady Monarchs dropped to 4-9 on the season while Susquehanna improved to 6-5.

King's is back in action on next Wednesday when they step back into conference play against DeSales at 6:00 p.m. in Center Valley.
