Numerous players from both squads have played together or against one another for years.
While the game is played with the intensity of a major rivalry, the rivalry has also been one of great respect. Following the game each time arrives at its own 40-yard line for the presentation of post-game awards. One player from each squad is named a team most valuable player. Afterwards, both teams remain on the field as the winner is presented the Mayor's Cup from Mayor Leighton.
