KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO FERRUM IN OPENING ROUND OF ROCHESTER TOURNEY

ROCHESTER, NY -- Kemani Crawford scored 19 points and controlled the inside game as Ferrum College posted a 69-49 victory over King's College in the opening round of the Chuck Resler Invitational Friday afternoon at the University of Rochester.

Ferrum, which went 27-3 and reached the second-round of the 2014 NCAA Division III National Tournament, improved to 1-1 on the year while King's slipped to 1-2.

King's opened up a 9-4 lead following a jumper form Olivia Hoffman and a three-pointer by Jennifer Fabian. But Ferrum responded with a 8-2 surge to take a 12-11 lead with 12:40 left in the first half. After King's tied the score at 12-12 on one-of-two free throws from Shae Grim with 12:18 on the clock, Ferrum used a 13-4 run to build a 25-16 following an inside bucket by Jacole Hairston. 

The Panthers took its biggest lead of the opening stanza at 32-19 after a lay-up from Crawford with 2:26 on the clock. Ferrum would eventually take a 33-23 lead into the break. Ferrum controlled the inside during the first half, scoring 20 of its 33 points in the paint.  King's shot just 27.8 (10-36) percent from the floor in the first half and were 2-for-12 from three-point range. 

Ferrum scored the first six points of the second half to extend the lead to 39-23. King's used a 8-2 surge to close to within 41-30 after five straight points from Kayla Feairheller, but Ferrum responded with a 12-5 run to stretch the score to 53-35 at 10:08 of the second half and never looked back.

Crawford led Ferrum with 19 points and nine boards while Hairston followed with 16 points and five rebounds.

Feairheller paced King's with 15 points while Marissa Manning and Fabian tallied eight points each. Kasey Seitz had seven points and two assists while Tara Zdancewicz chipped in with six points and three boards.

King's will play in the consolation game Saturday at 3:00 p.m. against the loser of the Rochester-Clarkson matchup.
