King's Women's Basketball Drops Decision to Del-Val

KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO DVC, 74-53

WILKES-BARRE --  The visiting Delaware Valley College women's basketball team built a nine-point lead at the half and never trailed after the 14:11 mark of the opening stanza as the Aggies posted a 74-53 Freedom Conference over host King's College Wednesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, Delaware Valley improved to 14-8 overall and 7-4 in Freedom Conferecne play. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 5-17 and 1-0 in league competition.

King's came out the gates and built a 7-2 lead with 15:10 on the clock thanks to six points from Kayla Feairheller and one-of-two free throws by Marissa Manning. But the Aggies bounced back with a 12-0 run to take a 14-7 advantage with 11:48 left in the first half. The Lady Monarchs used a jumper from Tara Zdancewicz and an inside basket fromManning to cut the lead to 14-11 at the 10:08 mark but De;aware Valley quickly responded with a 7-0 surge to push the score to 21-11 with 7:56 to play.

Safter King's cut the score to 26-22  after a driving lay-up by Kasey Seitz and one-of-two free throws by Jennifer Fabian with 4:16 left, the Aggies again surged forward with 7-0 run to extend the lead to 33-22 before settling for a 35-26 lead at the break.

In the second half Delaware Valley built a 15-point lead on an inside basket from Eireann Anastasi with 16:13 to play to give their Aggies their biggest lead to that point. The Lady Monarchs got to within seven points when a three-pointer from Jessica McHugh brogut the score to 45-38 at the 13:13 mark but King's would draw no closer the rest of the way as the Aggies slowly extended the lead.

Fabian led King's with her eighth double-double of the season, tallying 17 points and 12 rebounds while Feairheller added 12 points and seven boards. Manning contributed 10 points and seven rebounds while Seitz contributed five points and one steal. McHugh posted five points and five rebounds while Tara Zdancewicz chipped in with two points and three boards.

The Lady Monarchs shot just 29.0 (18-62) percent from the field and were only 2-of-20 from three-point range. KIng's also committed 18 turnovers while holding s 44-41 rebounding advantage.

The Aggies were paced by Anastasi and Brenna Coll who scored 24 points apiece.

King's returns to action Saturday when the Lady Monarchs play their final home game of the season with a 1:00 p.m. matchup against Manhattanville.
