KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE EDGED BY GWYNEDD-MERCY 17-15

GWYNEDD VALLEY -- Amanda Harney set a King's College single-game record with 11 points but the host Gwynedd-Mercy College women's lacrosse team broke up a 13-13 game with a decisive 4-0 late surge as the Griffins held off a pesky, undermanned Lady Monarch squad 17-15 Wednesday in Gwynedd Valley.

With the win, Gwynedd improved to 2-2 on the year while the Lady Monarchs slipped to 0-2. King's played the game man-down the entire game with only 11 healthy players able to compete.

The teams played virtually even in the first half as King's took a 9-8 lead at the half on the strength of five goals and one assist by Harney.

In the second half, Danae Perryman began to establish herself by scoring two of her five second-half goals to give the Griffins a 10-9 lead.  The Lady Monarchs used three goals from Jessica Ormrod and one by Catherine McMahon  to take a 13-12 lead with 11:26 left.

But King's playing short-handed and unable to make any substitutions the Lady Monarchs wore down during the final minutes. Gwynedd outscored King's 4-0 over the next 5:14 to take a 16-13 lead after a Kelsey Yori goal with 5:58 left. King's got a goal by Harney at the 2:50 mark to cut the score to 16-14 but the Griffins put the game away when Elizabeth Rand struck net with just 0:25 to play.  Ormrod added the final goal of he game for the Lady Monarchs with just 0:02 left to set the final score.

Gwynedd-Mercy outshot King's 36-22 and held a 21-15 advantage in ground balls as well as a decisive 22-12 lead in draws.

Harney led King's with six goals, five assists, six draws, and eight ground balls. Her 11 points broke the Lady Monarchs previous mark of 10 points shared by 10 different players but last done by Mariah Masciarelli (four goals, six assists) in 2012.

Ormrod followed with five goals while McMahon added three goals and one assist. Breanna Schugot score the Lady Monarchs' final goa while posting three ground balls.  King's goalie Courtney Stefanik made 14 saves in her first career game after missing the season-opener last week.

Perrymond finished with six goals and nine draws for Gwynedd while Yori followed with five goals and one assist to pace the Griffin attack. Megan Rose made five saves in goal.

King's returns to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. road trip to Elmira College
