KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS DROP 10-6 DECISION TO ELMIRA

ELMIRA, NY -- The host Elmira College women's lacrosse team broke open a 6-6 tie by scoring four unaswered goals over the final 13:27 of the game to post a 10-6 decision over visiting King's College Saturday in Elmira, NY.

With the win Elmira improved to 2-1 while King's slipped to 0-3.

King's took a 2-0 lead with after five minutes thanks to a pair of unassisted goals by Amanda Harney. But Elmira countered with five straight goals to tale a 5-2 lead with 14:37 remaining in the first half. 

King's got back-to-back scores from Catherine McMahon as the Lady Monarchs closed to within 5-4 at the half.

In the second half Elmira pushed the lead to 6-4 on a score with 23:47, but the Lady Monarchs tied the score at 6-6 with 17:49 to play as Breanna Schurgot and McMahon both score off of Harney assists.

From there it was Elmira assuming command with the final four goals of the game, two coming over the final 2:42 of the contest to put the game away.

McMahon led King's with three goals while Harney had two goals and three assists. Lady Monarch goalie Courtney Stefanik made 15 saves in net. 

For Elmira, Natalaie Robinson had three goals and an assists while Moorea Spoljaric and Jessica Blinkinsop added three goals apiece.Soaring Eagles' goalie LeAnna Presler made six saves.

Elmira outshot King's 30-15 and held a 24-23 advantage in ground balls. The Eagles also won 113 draws compared to five for King's.

The Lady Monarchs will host Lycoming Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Betzler Complex.
