King's Women's Lacrosse Earns 14-12 Win Over Cazenovia

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- Despite playing a man down the King's College women's lacrosse team battled to a 14-12 win over Cazenovia Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

Cazenovia got on the board first scoring with Kim Vrigian and Kaitlin Sheppard scoring to give the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage. The Lady Monarchs answered back with three straight goals from Amanda Harney, Jessica Ormrod and Katie Cryan to take a 3-2 lead.

After a Daejah Werntz goal knotted the game 3-3, Harney and Ormrod each tallied their second goal to put King's on top 5-3 with 14:20 to play in the opening half.

The teams traded two goals each to make the score 7-5 at the 3:54 mark in the first half. Gabreilla Morrocu netted her first career goal with 3:09 remaining in the half to give the Lady Monarchs an 8-5 edge at the break.

The Wildcats came out of the half hot scoring the first three goals to tie the game 8-8 with 25:06 left in the game. Catherine McMahon stopped the Cazenovia run with a goal at 21:24 that sparked four straight goals by King's pushing the lead back to 12-8 with just 14:22 to play.

Abby Webster cut the lead to 12-9 with an unassisted tally at 13:59, but Morrocu and Breanna Schurgot each scored for the Lady Monarchs to go up 14-9 with 8:09 remaining. Cazenovia put on a push rallying for the last three goals of the contest, but the King's defense held the Wildcats scoreless over the final 2:10 to secure the win.

Ormrod lead the scoring charge for King's tallying four goals on four shots. Morrocu added three goals and six draw controls while Harney potted two goals and one assist. McMahon and Schurgot picked up two goals each.

Vrigian led the way for Cazenovia with three goals and one assist for four points. Jessica Cramer also picked up four points on two goals and two helpers. Kaitlin Sheppard notched three goals.

The Lady Monarchs improved to 1-4 on the season and are back in action on Monday when they travel to Neumann for a 7:00 p.m. start.
