KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE REGISTERS 9-6 WIN OVER MT. ST. VINCENT

WILKES-BARRE -- Gabriella Morrocu and Amanda Harney combined to score seven goals as the King's College women's lacrosse team posted a 9-6 victory over the visiting College of Mt. St. Vincent Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 2-4 while Mt. St. Vincent slipped to 2-3.

Kelly Fraser and Jessica McAllister scored two quick goals to give the Dolphins a 2-0 lead after 5:02 of play had expired. But King's quickly battled back as Amanda Harney scored two unassisted goal, followed by back-to-back unassisted scores from Gabriella Morrocu to give the Lady Monarchs a 4-2 lead with 9:25 left in the first half. After McCallister scored her second goal to cut the lead to 4-3 at the 7:11 mark.

King's used a goal from Breanna Schurgot to push the score to 5-3 with 0:36 to play. King's came up with a critical goal when Anna Dainauski was awarded a free-position chance with 1.5 seconds left in the half and the Lady Monarch sophomore converted to give King's a 6-3 lead at the break.

In the second half the Dolphins trimmed the lead to 6-4 on a goal from Rachel Steimel just 2:58 into the final stanza. Harney struck net again for King's with 11:24 to play to stretch the lead to 7-4. Katie Coyle kept Mt. St. Vincent in the game with a score at 7:13, but Morrocu answered for King's with her third goal of the game with 2:57 showing on the clock as the Lady Monarchs took a 8-5 advantage.

Coyle, however, kept the Dolphins hopes alive with a goal at the 2:13 mark to trim the lead to 8-6. But Morrocu shut the door when she score off an assist from Cathering McMahon with 1:03 to play to set the final score.

Morrocu finished the game with four goals, five goals, and four draws while Harney tallied three goals, four ground balls, and four goals. Dainauski and Schurgot added one goal each while McMahon chipped in with an assist. Jessica Ormrod hauled in six ground balls while Courtney Stefanik posted five saves for the Lady Monarchs.

McAllister and Coyle scored two goals each for Mt. St. Vincent. Kelly Fraser added one goal and two assists while Kacie McCormick registered 10 stops in goal.

King's will be idle until Monarchb when the Lady Monarchs travel to face Alvernia Colege at 4:00 p.m. in Reading. King's will then travel to play Eastern University on Wednesday for its Freedom Conference opener at 4:00 p.m. in St. Davids.
