KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS FALL TO ALVERNIA, 19-7

WILKES-BARRE --  Brooke Campione and Jackie Strange scored four goals apiece to power the home Alvernia women's lacrosse team to a 19-7 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over visiting King's College Monday afternoon in Reading.

With the win Alvernia improved to 7-3 while King's slipped to 2-5.

King's jumped out to a 2-1 lead on goals by Catherine McMahon and Gabriella Morrocu. But Alvernia outscored the Lady Monarchs 7-2 the rest of the way to take a 8-4 lead into the halftime break.

The Crusaders put the game away in the second half by scoring seven of the next eight goals to build a 15-3 lead with 21:32 left in the contest

Catherine McMahon led King's with three goals while Gabriella Morrocu followed with two goals and one assist. Amanda Harney contributed with one goal, one assist, three caused turnovers, and six ground balls. Jessica Ormrod chipped in with King's final goal.

King's goalie Courtney Stefanik made eight saves while Alvernia keeper Colleen Reilly had seven stops.

Strange led the Crusaders with four goals and one assist while Campione added four goals and two ground balls. Abby McCarthy contributed two goals and two assists while Candace Knight posted two goals and one assist.

Alvernia outshot King's 39-15 and held a 24-12 advantage in ground balls.  King's also committed 21 turnovers compared to 15 for the Crusaders.

The Lady Monarchs return to the field Wednesday when King's opens its Freedom Conference schedule with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Eastern University in St. Davids.
