Box Score Short-Handed Lady Monarch Laxers Fall to WilkesWilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's College women's lacrosse team played two players down for a majority of their 23-8 loss to visiting Wilkes Saturday afternoon at King's McCarthy Stadium.
King's drew first blood in the contest with
Gabriella Morrocu scoring an unassisted tally at the 26:58 mark. The Lady Colonels answered with three straight scores to take a 3-1 lead with Gabby Ford scoring once and Tori Kerr netting a pair.
The Lady Monarchs battled back with
Catherine McMahon and
Amanda Harney each scoring unassisted to tie the game 3-3 with 14:56 to play in the first. Wilkes rallied with five consecutive goals to jump back ahead 8-3 with 5:04 remaining in the period.
With 4:07 to play in the half
Jessica Ormrod scored for King's unassisted and then Morrocu cut the lead to 8-5 with 36 seconds to play in the first before Madeleine Brownsey set the halftime score at 9-5 in favor of the Lady Colonels with an unassisted goal of her own.
Wilkes picked up the first two goals of the second frame with Brownsey and Carly Smith scoring at 28:18 and 26:43 respectively. Morrocu stopped the run for King's scoring at the 26:15 mark.
The Lady Colonels scored three more goals before
Breanna Schurgot notched a free position goal at 19:41 to cut the lead to 14-7. Smith and Brownsey each added an unassisted tally to push the Lady Colonels to 16-7 at the 15:44 mark.
Schurgot scored again with 12:38 to play to cut the lead to 16-8, but Wilkes scored seven straight goals to close out the game. Playing with a two-man advantage, and a 13-goal lead, Wilkes elected to pad the score and pushed across its final two goals at the 3:11 mark, then another with just 0:05 remaining in the contest.
Morrocu led the way for the Lady Monarchs scoring three goals. Schurgot netted a pair of goals while McMahon, Harney, and Ormrod each picked up one goal.
Smith paced the Lady Colonels with 10 points on six goals and four assists. Brownsey chipped in five goals and two helpers for seven points while Kerr notched six points on five goals and one assist.
The Lady Monarchs fell to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the Freedom Conference while Wilkes moved to 9-0 and 2-0 in league play.
King's is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Misericordia for a Freedom Conference tilt starting at 7:00 p.m.
