King's Women's Cagers Fall to Hot-Shooting Eastern

HOT-SHOOTING EASTERN REGISTERS 90-57 FREEDOM CONFERENCE WIN OVER VISITING KING'S

ST. DAVIDS -- The Host Eastern University women's basketball team scorched the nets, opening a 46-28 halftime lead and cruised to a 90-57 victory over visiting King's College Saturday in St. Davids.

With the win Eastern improved to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in Freedom Conference play while King's slipped to 5-9 and 1-3 in league competition.

King's took an early lead after a three-pointer by Jennifer Fabian on the second possession of the game but eastern answered with a 7-1 surge to build a 10-3 advantage with 16:13 left in the first half. After King's closed to within 12-8 at the 14:25 mark, Eastern outscored the Lady Monarchs 25-8 over the next 10 minutes to stretch the lead to 37-16 with 4:15 left in the half.  The Eagles eventually took a comfortable 46-28 lead at the break.

Over the first 20 minutes of play Eastern shot 51.4 (18-35) percent from the floor and made 46.7 (7-15) percent form three-point range. King's would come no closer than 15 points in the second half.

Marissa Manning led Kings with 12 points and five rebounds while Kasey Seitz followed with 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Rachael DeTore added nine points while Kayla Feairheller and Tara Zdancewicz chipped in with seven and six points respectively.

Meghan Nowak finished with 26 points and eight rebounds while Emily Lavin and Gina DiDomenico added 14 points apiece as 11 different Eastern players reached the scoring column.

Overall, Eastern shot 48.6 (35-72) percent from the field field and 45.2 (14-31) percent from three-point range. King's made 42.9 (21-49) percent from the field and 27.3 (3-11 from long range. The Lady Monarchs were also outrebounded 40-28 as Eastern snared 16 of rebounded on the offensive glass.

King's will return to the court Monday with a 7:00 p.m. home game with Lycoming College in Scandlon Gym.
