King's Women Post Dramatic 2nd Half Rally for 59-53 Road Win Over Misericordia

KING'S WOMEN RALLY PAST MISERICORDIA

DALLAS --  The King's College women's basketball team overcame a 12-point second half deficit by outscoring host Misericordia University 23-6 over the final 10:26 as the Lady Monarchs rallied for a 59-53 victory Wednesday night in the Anderson Center in Dallas.

With the win King's improved to 6-10 overall and 2-3 in the Freedom Conference. Misericordia slipped to 0-16 and 0-5 in league competition.

With King's trailing 45-35 with 13:04 left in the contest, the Lady Monarchs scored seven straight points, thanks to five from Marissa Manning. After a Cougar bucket, King's used an offensive rebound and bucket by Kayla Feairheller and another Manning basket to close to within 49-46 with 6:00 on the clock. 

King's jumped out to a 6-3 lead after four straight points from Jennifer Fabian. After Misericordia responded with a 6-0 spurt to take a 9-6 lead King's countered with a 6-2 surge to build a 14-11 lead with 10:00 left in the opening stanza.

After Misericordia scored with 5:13 to play, the Lady Monarchs went on an 11-0 run on the strength of four points by Feairheller, a three-pointer from Kasey Seitz and an inside basket by Olivia Hoffman to take a 57-51. King's lead at 53-51 was the Lady Monarchs' first since 14-13 in the first half.  All told, King's held Misericordia to just 19 second half points while scoring 34.

In the first half Misericordia used a 15-2 run to take a 26-16 lead with 5:12 left in the opening stanza. Shae Grim nailed a three-pointer for King's to trim the lead to 28-19 but the teams scored six points each the rest of the way as the Cougars took a 34-25 lead into the locker room. 

Manning led King;s with 15 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Feairheller added 13 points and nine boards. Fabian added nine points and eight boards while Tara Zdancewicz contributed  six points. 

Misericordia was paced by Smichirko with 16 points but the Cougars was held to two points in the second half after netting 14 in the first half. Justine Seeley and Nikki Baro tallied 10 points each.

King's will next host Manhattanville Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
