LADY MONARCHS DROP FREEDOM CONFERENCE GAME TO EASTERN, 70-50WILKES-BARRE, PA --- Eastern University shot 51.6 percent in the second half to turn a close game at halftime into a 70-50 victory over King's on Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the loss King's falls to 9-13 overall and 5-6 in Freedom play while Eastern improves to 18-4 overall and 10-1 in conference play.
Eastern began the game on an 8-3 run after a layup by Meghan Nowark with 13:31 left in the first half. A three-pointer by
Kasey Seitz cut the lead to 8-6 and the team would trade baskets until a layup by
Jennifer Fabian with 7:09 left in the first half would make the score 17-15 in favor of the Eagles. The Eagles then used two layups by Kaleigh Boreman and a three-pointer by Emily Carmel to increase their lead to their largest of the half at 24-15. King's fought back and traded baskets before a jumper by
Kayla Feairheller with 1:42 left cut the lead to six points at 29-23.
The Eagles came out of the locker room after halftime on fire and scored nine straight points, including seven by Emily Lavin in the first 4:29. A three-pointer by
Katie Dugan stopped the run before Nowak scored five straight points to increas the lead 17 with 12:35 left in the game. Eastern shot 51.6 (16-31) percent from the field in the second half and increased their lead to as many as 24 points before a layup by
Tara Zdancewicz with 29 seconds left set the final score at 70-50.
King's was led by
Kayla Feairheller with 14 points and
Jennifer Fabian with six points and 10 rebounds.
Olivia Hoffman had six points and six rebounds while
Kasey Seitz had seven points and three rebounds.
Meghan Nowak led the Eagle with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Emily Lavin had 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half, and 13 rebounds. Kaleigh Boreman tallied 11 points and seven rebounds.
King's now stands at 5-6 in conference play and fall one game behind fourth place Delaware Valley after the Aggies were able to defeat Misericordia by a score of 75-57.
The Monarchs will next be in action on Saturday when they host Misericordia University in an important Freedom Conference game at 1:00 p.m.
