KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS FALL TO FDU, 8-5

WILKES-BARRE --  The King's College women's lacrosse team was unable to make a 5-2 lead stand up as visiting FDU-Florham scored the final six goals of the game to post a 8-5 victory Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the won FDU improved to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in Freedom Conference play.  King's, meanwhile, slipped to 6-5 and 2-1 league games as the Monarchs four-game winning streak came to an end.

King's built a 3-0 lead with 15:40 left in the first half on goals by Gabrielle Morrocu, Breanna Schurgot, and Kendra McCoy. After the Devils scored two straight to trim the lead to 3-2 with 6:32 on the clock, King's answered with the final score of the half when Anastasia Araviakis struck net with 3:05 remaining as King's took a 4-2 lead into the halftime break.

The Monarchs forged a 5-2 lead just 2:40 into the second half when Morrocu scored unassisted. But it was all FDU the rest of the way as the Devils maintained possession for the vast majority of the match by winning all eight draws.

Courtney Rendinaro scored three of the Devils' second-half goals to lead the FDU comeback.

FDU outshot King's 23-15 for the game but held a whopping 14-1 advantage in shots in the second half.

Morrocu led King's with two goals while Anastasia Araviakis contributed one goal and one assist. McCoy and Schurgot both scored once each for the Monarchs. King's goalie Alexus Arcaro had nine saves for the Monarchs.

The women's laxers also sponsored a Play Gray Day to raise funds for King's women's basketball coch Brian Donoghue who has been battling brain cancer for the past 20 months. The team raised nearly $1,100 for Donoghue and his family to aid in the cost of medical expenses.  Since being diagnosed in July of 2013, Donoghue has not missed a practice or game at King's.

King's returns to the field Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown.
