KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE EARNS 11-7 VICTORY OVER DELAWARE VALLEY

DOYLESTOWN, PA --- Gabriella Morrocu and Anastasia Araviakis combined for nine goals to lead the King's College women's lacrosse team to an 11-7 victory over Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon.

King's improves to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in Freedom play with the win while Delaware Valley falls to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in the league.

King's started the game slow allowing two goals to the Aggies before Araviakis scored three straight goals to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead with 15:55 left in the first half. The Aggies responded with three goals of their own before Breanna Schurgot and Morrocu scored to even the score at 5 going into halftime.

The Monarchs came out strong in the second half with two goals by Morrocu, a goal by Kendra McCoy, and a goal by Araviakis to take a 9-5 lead with 18 minutes left to play. Delaware Valley closed the gap to 9-7 with seven minutes left but Morrocu scored her third and fourth goals of the second half to give King's an 11-7 victory.

King's outshot the Aggies 34-16 and won 14 of the 20 draw controls including eight of nine in the second half. Delaware Valley held a slim 26-25 advantage in ground balls. The Monarchs forced 20 Aggie turnovers while only committing 17.

Gabriella Morrocu led King's with five goals while Anastasia Araviakis posted four goals and one assist. Breanna Schurgot and Kendra McCoy had a goal each for the Monarchs. Victoria Zawacki made six saves in goal.

Delaware Valley was led by Graeleigh Lackey with four goals. Nicollette Angelella had a goal and an assist while Lydia Spakosky and Taylor Teliszewski had a goal each. Sarah Fenwick made 13 saves in goal.

The Monarchs will next be in action on Tuesday when they host local rival Misericordia University in an important Freedom Conference game at McCarthy Stadium at 4:00 p.m. King's currently sits in third place in the Freedom standings while Misericordia and FDU-Florham are tied for first a game ahead of the Monarchs heading into the final two games of the season. A victory over the Cougars would clinch a berth into the Freedom Conference Tournament.
