KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE POST 18-9 VICTORY AT MANHATTANVILLEPURCHASE, N.Y. ---
Anastasia Araviakis and
Gabriella Morrocu combined for 11 goals to lead the King's College women's lacrosse team to an 18-9 victory at Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon.
King's improves to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom Conference with the win. King's will make their fourth ever appearance in Freedom Conference Tournament as the third seed a year after finishing with a 3-10 overall record and 1-5 in the league. Manhattanville finishes the season with a 4-11 record and 1-5 mark in conference competition.
The Monarchs raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute on goals by Araviakis and
Kendra McCoy. Manhattanville cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal before King's added three more goals, two by Morrocu to take a 5-1 lead with 22:20 left in the first half. After a Valiant score
Breanna Schurgot and
Hayley Greenwood scored to increase the Monarchs advantage to 7-2. Three straight goals by Manhattanville cut the lead to 7-5 with 14:13 left in the half. The Monarchs and Valiants exchanged goals until Araviakis and Schurgot scored in the final two minutes of the half to give King's a 11-7 halftime advantage.
The Monarchs came out strong in the second half scoring the first six goals in a 14 minutes stretch to extend their lead to 17-7 with 11:45 left.. Morrocu and Araviakis had two goals each while Schurgot and McCoy scored during the stretch. After a Mnahattanville score Morrocu found the back of the net for the fifth time in the game.
Anastasia Araviakis led King's with six goals and two assists while
Gabriella Morrocu scored five goals.
Kendra McCoy posted two goals and two assists while
Breanna Schurgot scored three goals.
Hayley Greenwood and
Sarah Almony added a goal each.
Victoria Zawacki made 16 saves in goal to get the win.
Manhattanville was led by Meghann Haggerty and Sarah Dalsey with two goals each. Olivia Drew, Christina Leva, M.J. Caro, Carly Brunco, and Arianna Kreush all scored one goal. Lauren Cassidy made four saves in goal.
The Monarchs were out shot in the game 38-30 and Manhattanville held a slight 17-16 advantage in ground balls. Manhattanville won 15 of the 29 draw controls while both teams turned the ball over 18 times.
King's will enter this week's Freedom Conference Tournament as the third-seed and will travel to Dallas, PA on Wednesday to face second-seeded Misericordia University at 4:00 p.m. Misericordia defeated King's 19-15 on Tuesday in the first meeting between the teams this year. FDU-Florham and Eastern will meet in the other semi-final game.
