KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS RALLY PAST WILKES IN OVERTIME, 17-16

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's lacrosse team rallied from a 16-14 deficit in overtime to score three straight goals en route to stunning host Wilkes University 17-16 at Schmidt Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in Freedom Conference play while Wilkes slipped to 8-3 and 0-2.

King's trailed 10-3 with 23:03 left in regulation and fought all the way back to tie the game at 13-13 when Anastasia Araviakis scored with 0:44 left to cut the score to 13-12 before Gabriella Morrocu struck net with 0:26 on the clock to send the game into a six-minute overtime.

From there the teams traded goals to remain tied at 14-14 but Wilkes got goals from Carley Smith and Madeline Brownsey to take a 16-14 lead with 4:00 to play. 

From there, Morrocu scored unassisted at just 0:07 later to trim the lead to 16-15. Breanna Schurgot then struck net unassisted with 1:06 on the clock to knot the score at 16-16.  With 0:26 to play, Morrocu delivered what proved to be the game-winner on a free position goal as King's walked away with a dramatic victory.

Araviakis led King's with five goals and one assist while Morrocu added five goals of her own, including the deciding score.  Schurgot netted four goals while Kendra McCoy, Sarah Alony, and Brianna Zawacki netted one goal apiece. King's goalie Alexis Arcaro made 15 saves in the contest.

For Wilkes, Brownsey scored nine goals with one assist while Tori Kerr had three goals and one assist. Smith contributed one goal and four assists for the Lady Colonels. Wilkes goal Kellie Kalada made seven stops.

King's will host FDU-Florham Saturday at 1:00 p.. in a Freedo Conference matchup.
