KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS IMPROVE TO 2-0 WITH 17-13 WIN OVER MORAVIAN

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's lacrosse team built a 8-7 half-time lead before outscoring visiting Moravian College 9-6 over the final 30 minutes of play as the Lady Monarchs earned a 17-13 victory Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the won King's improved to 2-0 while Moravian slipped to 1-1.


After King's fell behind 1-0, the Lady Monarchs tied the game on a goal by Gabrielle Morrocu.  Moravian then scored two straight for a 3-1 lead but King's answered with a Megan O'Brien goal to cut the lead to 3-2 at 23:55 of the first half.

After the Greyhounds countered King's scored six of the next seven goals, paced by three from Araviakis, two by Almony and one by Aleaha Blazick to take a 8-5 lead with 3:06 left on the clock. 

Moravian would score the final two goals of the half to to trail 8-7 at the break.

In the second half King's took a 10-7 lead with 17:48 remaining on a goal by Hayley Greenwood and Amanda Carroll. After Moravian scored twice to cut the lead to 10-9 with 13:22 on the clock, Almony scored twice while Carroll added another to push the Lady Monarch lead to 13-9 with 10:42 to go.

Another Moravian goal was countered by Carroll to up the score to 14-10 with 9:08 remaining. After a Greyhound score at the 8:21 mark cut the margin to 14-11, King's outscored Moravian 3-2 the rest of the way.


Almony led King's with four goals and one assist while Carroll also scored four. Araviakis added three goals and two assists while Morrocu tallied two goals. O'Brien contributed one goal and one assist while Greenwood, and Blazick chipped in with one goal apiece. King's goalie Victoria Zawacki made seven saves.

For Moravian, Jillian Picciuto scored five goals with three assists while Jess Pisano and Alexia Johnston added three each.

King's outshot Moravian 34-30 and had a 33-25 advantage in ground balls. 

King's next plays Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Widener University in Chester.
