LADY MONARCH LAXERS EVEN CONFERENCE MARK WITH 16-10 VICTORY OVER DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- Gabriella Morrocu scored six goals and dished out three assists to lead the King's College women's lacrosse team to a 16-10 victory over Delaware Valley University on Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.

King's improved to 3-7 overall and evened their conference mark to 1-1 with the win while Delaware Valley fell to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the MAC Freedom.

The Lady Monarchs opened up the game with five goals in the first nine minutes to take a 5-0 lead. Sarah Almony scored the first goal 31 seconds into the game followed by two straight goals from Breanna Schurgot and then two straight from Morrocu. The Aggies scored the next three goals to cut the lead to 5-3. Megan O'Brien gave King's a 6-3 lead with 14:14 left in the half before Delaware Valley scored again. The Monarchs finished the half strong with four goals, two by Morrocu and one each by Almony and Amanda Carroll to take a 10-4 lead into halftime.

In the second half Schurgot, Anastasia Araviakis, and Morrocu gave the Monarchs a 13-4 lead with unassisted goals in the first nine minutes. The Aggies responded with two quick goals to cut the deficit to 13-6 with 20:11 left. Morrocu, Carroll, and Araviakis scored for King's in between Delaware Valley goals to take a 16-9 lead. The Aggies scored once more with 2:46 left to set the final.

King's was led by Gabriella Morrocu who had nine points on six goals and three assists while taking just eight shots. Breanna Schurgot had a hat trick with three goals while Sarah Almony added two goals. Amanda Carroll had two goals and two assists while Megan O'Brien had a goal and an assist. Victoria Zawacki made six saves in goal to record the win.

The Monarchs outshot the Aggies 28-19 and forced 31 turnovers compared to committing 22. Delaware Valley held the advantage in draw controls 18-10.

King's will return to the field on Saturday when they host cross-town rival Wilkes University at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
