KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALL TO WILKES

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The visiting Wilkes University women's lacrosse team outscored King's College 15-6 in the second half to come away with a 20-13 victory on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.

The Colonels improve to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play with the win while the Monarchs fall to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in MAC Freedom play.

Wilkes opened up the scoring with three straight goals to take a 3-0 lead. Sarah Almony got the Monarchs on the board with a goal off an assist from Juliette Mortimer with 13:39 left in the first half. After a yellow card given to the Monarchs Almony scored again off another assist from Mortimer with King's playing a man down. King's then got another man down goal 26 seconds later to tie the game when Gabriella Morrocu found Hayley Greenwood in front of the net. King's then took their first lead of the game when Morrcou found Mortimer for another man-down goal with 10:25 left in the half. After a Wilkes goal Morrocu scored for King's and then assisted on a goal by Anastasia Araviakis to give King's a 6-4 lead. The Colonels were able to score once more in the half before the Monarchs got a goal from Amanda Carroll off an assist from Morrocu to give King's a 7-5 lead at the half.

Tori Kerr scored the first four goals of the second half for Wilkes in the first five minutes, three on free position shots, to give the Colonels a 9-7 lead. After another free position goal by the Colonels, Morrocu scored King's first goal of the second half on a free position shot. Wilkes responded with another free position goal and then Mortimer scored off an assist from Araviakis to keep the lead at two goals. Wilkes scored with 21:01 left to push the lead back up to three but Sarah Almony scored a goal off an assist from Mortimer to bring the lead back down to two.

Wilkes then scored the next two goals to increase the lead to 14-10 before Amanda Carroll scored off an assist from Morrocu to keep the Colonel advantage to three goals. However Wilkes scored back-to0back goals to take a 16-11 lead with 9:25 left in the game. Morrocu and Mortimer each scored off assists from Araviakis with a Wilkes goal in between to cut the lead to 17-13 with 4:21 left but the Colonels scored three times the rest of the way to set the final.

Gabriella Morrocu led King's with three goals and five assists while Juliette Mortimer had three goals and three assists. Anastasia Araviakis had a goal and three assists while Sarah Almony scored three times, Amanda Carroll had two goals, and Hayley Greenwood had one. Victoria Zawacki made 19 saves in goal for the Monarchs.

Wilkes, who won 24 of the 35 draw controls, held possession for much of the game and outshot the Monarchs 49-21. Jessyca Held led the team with seven goals while Tori Kerr had six goals and one assist. Madeleine Brownse scored five goals. Tabitha Gravius got the win in goal making five saves.

The Colonels converted on seven of their 15 free position attempts while the Monarchs scored on only one of their four attempts.

King's will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Dallas, PA to face local rival Misericordia University at 4:00 p.m.
