KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO EASTERN 5-4Â IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE OPENER
WILKES-BARRE -- Missing two starting players proved costly to the King's College women's tennis team as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 5-4 decision to visiting Eastern University in the Freedom Conference opener Saturday at Kirby Park.
The personnel issues were most notably felt at number-two singles and number-one doubles where Julia Keppel was unable to compete with an injury.  King's lost both matches in spots Keppel otherwise occupies.Â
Eastern won two of the three doubles matches, the most damaging occurring at number-one singles where King's Madeline Griffin, who normally plays with Keppel, teamed with freshman Hannah Jenkins. The duo dropped a close 9-8 (9-7) decision.  Natalie Coffee and Emily Kabalka teamed to register King's sole win in doubles.
In singles, the teams split the six bouts three apiece, Griffin was a straight-set winner in the top spot while Lauren DeReinzi and Coffee won the Lady Monarchs other two singles contests.
