King’s Women’s Lacrosse Earn Senior Day Win over Manhattanville

WOMEN'S LAX DEFEAT MANHATTANVILLE 15-10 ON SENIOR DAY

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College women's lacrosse team gave their six senior a win in their final home game at McCarthy Stadium with a 15-10 decision over Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Monarchs improve to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play with the win. The win also keeps their postseason hopes alive combined with Eastern's 19-9 loss to FDU-Florham. King's stands just a half game behind the Eagles for the fourth and final spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament with the teams scheduled to play next Saturday down in St. Davids in the season finale. The winner of that game will decide the fourth and final spot no matter what Eastern does on Monday against Misericordia. Manhattanville falls to 5-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

The Valiants scored the first goal of the game 55 seconds in before Anastasia Araviakis and Amanda Carroll scored back-to-back goals for the Monarchs to give King's a 2-1 lead. After a goal from Manhattanville to tie the game King's scored three straight goals to take a 5-2 lead. Gabriella Morrocu, Araviakis, and Carroll scored for King's. The Valiants scored three of the next four goals in the half with Araviakis scoring for King's to cut the Monarch lead to 6-5 with 8:46 left in the half. King's responded with the final two goals of the half from Carroll and Morrocu to take a 8-5 lead into the break.

The Monarchs came out strong in the second half scoring six of the first seven goals to increase their lead to 14-6 with 15:07 left in the game. The six goals came from five different players and Araviakis assisted on three of the goals. The Valiants were able to score four straight goals to cut the lead to 14-10 with 2:31 left in the game but the Monarchs were get a goal from Hayley Greenwood with 22 seconds left to set the final.

Anastasia Araviakis led King's with three goals and four assists while Amanda Carroll had five goals and an assist. Gabriella Morrocu scored three times and added an assist while Juliette Mortimer scored a goal.

Playing their final game at McCarthy Stadium senior Breanna Schurgot had scored a goal and fellow senior Hayley Greenwood scored twice. Senior Elizabeth Donovan had five groundballs while fellow senior Erin Dempsey had one groundball. Senior Katie Cryan took one shot. Courtney Stefanik got the start in goal playing in her final game and recorded the win while making 13 saves.

King's will return to action on Wednesday in their final non conference game of the year with a 4:00 matchup at Immaculata University in Immaculata, PA.
