KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS DOWN EASTERN TO CLINCH FREEDON TOURNEY BERTH
ST. DAVIDS -- The King's College women's lacrosse team overcame a 5-4 first-half deficit to post a 13-9 victory over host Eastern University Saturday in St. Davids.
With the win King's clinched a berth in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament. The Monarchs, who overcame several injuries throughout the season to make the post-season, stand at 6-9 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference while Eastern slipped to 4-13 and 2-4 after the winner-take-all game.
King's trailed 5-4 with 5:11 left in the first half but responded by scoring the next nine goals to built a 13-5 lead with 17:55 left in the contest. Amanda carroll scored four goals during the onslaught and finished the game with a team-high five scores.Gabrielle Morrocu added three goals and three assists while Anastasia Araviakis contributed two goals, two assists, and four ground balls. Hayley Greenwood, Megan O'Brien, and Sarah Almony added one goal apiece.
King's goalie Victoria Zawacki posted seven saves to pick up the win. Eastern outshot King's 28-27 while the Monarchs owned a 17-12 advantage in ground balls.
King's will travel to face top-seeded FDU-Florham in the Freedom Conference semi-finals Wednesday at a time to be announced.
