KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM TRAVELING TO FACE FDU-FLORHAM TODAY IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's lacrosse team will open Freedom Conference Tournament competition today when the Lady Monarchs travel to Madison, NJ to face FDU-Florham at 6:00 PM at Robert T. Shields Stadium.

King's enters the event as the fourth-seed after concluding an injury-riddled regular-season with a 6-9 overall record and a 3-3 league mark.  FDU enters the matchup with a 11-6 record as well as a 6-0 conference mark. The teams played back on April 9 in the league opener with FDU winning 11-3.

King's is led by second-team All-Freedom attack Gabriella Morrocu who topped the team in scoring with 67 points on 45 goals and 22 assists. First-team all-league midfielder Anastasia Araviakis follows with 53 points on 32 goals and 21 assists while freshman first-team midfielder Amanda Carroll was third on the team with 44 points on 39 goals and five assists.  Sophomore attack Sarah Almony contributed 27 points on 24 goals and three assists.  

Sophomore Megan O'Brien, a second-team all-Freedom pick on defense, has registered 43 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers while chipping in with 11 points on seven goals four assists. Also defensively, Elizabeth Donovan adds 26 ground balls. Sophomore goalie Victoria Zawacki has a 14.5 goals against average while making 133 saves in net.

For FDU, junior Joelle Manganella, a first-team all-league choice, tops the Devils with 48 points on 36 goals and 12 assists while senior Brianna Capobianco, the Freedom Conference "Player of the Year" follows with 44 points on 32 goals and 12 assists. Junior midfielder Brianna Reasoner, another first-team pick, adds 37 points on 33 goals and four assists.  In goal, freshman Megan Nemeth, the Freedom Conference "Rookie of the Year", has 116 saves and a 7.16 goals against average.

The winner will advance to the Freedom Conference title game to face the winner of the other semi-final pairing between second-seeded Misericordia and third-seeded Wilkes. The championship game will be played Saturday at a time to be announced at the site of the highest remaining seed.
