King's Women's Laxers Win Season Debut with 18-8 Victory over Keystone

KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS WIN SEASON-OPENER WITH 18-8 VICTORY OVER KEYSTONE

LaPLUME -- Gabriella Morrocu scored six goals and handed out three assists and the King's College women's lacrosse team opened a 13-5 lead at the half en route to a 18-8 season-opening victory over host Keystone College Sunday in LaPlume.

Sarah Almony opened the scoring for King's just 1:05 into the game before Morrocu answered with two straight goals to give the Lady Monarchs a 3-0 lead with 23:59 left in the opening stanza.

After a Keystone goal, King's answered with consecutive scores from Katy Higinbothom and Amanda Carroll to push the lead to 5-1 with 18:31 on the clock. After Keystone closed to within 6-4, King's followed with  a three-goal spurt from Tabitha Truelson, Morrocu, and Carroll to up the lead oi 9-4 with 7:36 left in the half.

After Keystone goal pushed the score to 9-5, King's closed out the opening half with a 4-0 run thanks to two more Morrocu goals and one score each from Anastasia Araviakis and Almony.

In the second half King's continued to advance the score as Carroll and Truelson scored once, and Higinbothom added back-to-back goals to up the Lady Monarch advantage to 17-5 with 19:43 to play. Morrocu scored her sixth and final goal with 7:26 to go, giving King's a 18-7 lead.

Morrocu's nine total points in the contest equaled the third highest single game total in program history, as did her total of six goals. Higinbothom finished with three goals and two assists while Carroll also added three goals. Araviakis, Almony, and Truelson chipped in with three goals apiece while Kendra McCoy chipped in with three assists.

In goal, Victoria Zawacki posted five saves to pick up the win.

King's outshot Keystone 41-13 in the game and won 21-of-28 draws. King's also owned a 26-18 advantage in ground balls and forced 24 Keystone turnovers.

King's will next travel to Bethlehem to face Moravian College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
