King's Women's Lacrosse Falls at Moravian 14-8

MORAVIAN WOMEN'S LACROSSE DOWNS KING'S, 14-8

BETHLEHEM -- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team scored nine unanswered goals over a 22-minute span as the host Greyhounds posted a 14-8 victory over King's College Thursday night in Bethlehem.

With the win, Moravian improved to 1-1 while King's slipped to 1-1.

With the game tied at 4-4, Moravian scored the first of nine straight goals spanning the first and second halves when Kyleigh McGovern found he back of the net with 9:09 left in the opening stanza. It was the first of four consecutive goals by the Greyhounds, who took an 8-4 lead at the break.

Moravian then came out in the second half and scored the first five goals to forge a 13-4 lead with 13:53 left in the contest.

King's would fight back and netted four straight goals, two by Tabitha Truelson and one each from Gabriella Morrocu and Amanda Carroll to close to 13-8 with 8:03 to play. But Moravian added the game's final goal with 6:33 on the clock to seal the victory.

Morrocu led King's with two goals and one assist while Truelson and Anastasia Araviakis contributed two goals each. Katy Higinbothom posted one goal and two assists while Carroll chipped in with one goal. Araviakis had a team-high five ground balls while Lady Monarch goalie Victoria Zawacki registered 15 saves. 

Jillian Piccuto led Moravian with six goals and two assists while Liz Ball followed with five. Kelley Gavin made four saves for the Greyhounds.

King's will next make its home debut Saturday with a 1:00 PM matchup against Widener University at McCarthy Stadium.

Moravian outshot King's 35-19 and won 14-of-24 draws. The Greyhounds also owned a 26-21 advantage in ground balls and forced King's into 27 turnovers.
