King's Women's Lacrosse Comeback Bid Falls Short in 12-9 Loss at Lycoming

KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS FALL SHORT IN COMEBACK BID AT LYCOMING

WILLIAMSPORT -- The King's College women's lacrosse team fell behind 9-3 after 30 minutes of play and came up short in a second half comeback bid as host Lycoming College walked away with a 12-9 triumph Saturday in Williamsport.

With the win Lycoming improved to 3-3 while King's slipped to 2-4.

Lycoming opened a 3-0 lead after 6:07 of play until King's got on the board when Gabriella Morrocu scored on a free position goal at the 21:23 mark. 

The Warriors countered with three more goals to build a 6-1 lead with 13:46 left in the half before Amanda Carroll scored for the Lady Monarchs to cut the lead to 6-2 with 6:19 on the clock.

Lycoming, however, would outscore King's 3-1 the rest of the way to forge ahead 9-3 at the break.

In the second stanza, Katy Higinbothom scored for the Lady Monarchs 1:55 into the final frame, but Lycoming answered to push the score to 10-4 with 24:43 left in the contest.

King's would then mount its comeback with five straight goals. Anastasia Araviakis began the surge at the 19:44 mark before Morrocu scored two straight to cut the lead to 10-7 with 13:41 left.  Araviakis then scored back-to-back goals to bring the Lady Monarchs within 10-9 with 5:26 remaining. 

But King's came no closer as Lycoming scored the final two goals to hold onto the victory.

Araviakis paced King's with three goals and one assist, including the 99th goal of her career as a junior. Morrocu followed with three goals, five draws, and two ground balls. Carroll added two goals and three draws while Higinbothom finished with one goal and two ground balls. Victoria Zawacki made six goal in net for the Lady Monarchs.

Kelly McGinnis led Lycoming with five goals while Jordan Lazarich finished with four goals and one assist.

King's outshot Lycoming 27-22 and held a 18-16 advantage in ground balls. The Warriors owned a 13-10 edge in draws.

King's returns to the field Monday with a  4:00 PM home game against Immaculata University at McCarthy Stadium.
