FDU WOMEN'S LAXERS POST 14-6 VICTORY OVER KING'S
WILKES-BARRE -- The two-time defending Freedom Conference champion FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team showed its worth, opening up an 11-2 half-time lead en route to a 14-6 victory over host King's College in a Freedom Conference matchup Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, FDU improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play while King's slipped to 5-6 and 1-1 in the league.
The Devils scored the first three goals of the game before Amanda Carroll got the Lady Monarchs on the scoreboard with 15:19 left in the first half. After two more FDU goals, Anastasia Araviakis struck net on a free position shot to trim the Devil lead to 5-2 with 9:17 on the clock. But FDU closed out the half with a 6-0 run to take an 11-2 lead into the locker room.
In the second half King's scored first on an unassisted goal by Gabriella Morrocu but FDU countered with two straight to extend the lead to 13-3 at the 22:40 mark. King's managed to outscore the Devils 3-1 the rest of the way as Araviakis scored twice more while Morrocu also found the back of the net.
Araviakis paced King's with three goals while Morrocu scored twice. Carroll added the other goal for the Lady Monarchs. Victoria Zawacki made 10 saves in goal for King's.
Brienna Reasoner led FDU with five goals and one assist while Joelle Manganella added two goals and three assists. Seven other FDU players contributed goals. Megan Nemeth made 10 saves for the Devils.
King's returns to play April 13 at Delaware Valley University.
