KING'S WOMEN FALL AT MISERICORDIA

DALLAS -- The King's College women's basketball team endured its worst shooting night of the season, making just 26.4 percent of its shots as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 64-38 decision to host Misericordia University Wednesday night in Dallas.

With the loss King's slipped to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the MAC Freedom Conference. Misericordia improved to 8-7 and 2-2.

The teams played on even terms through most of the first quarter.  A Rebecca Prociak bucket would bring the Lady Monarchs to within 12-10 with 3:50 left in the period. But Misericordia outscored King's 9-0 the rest of the way to take a 21-10 lead into the second quarter.

The Cougars would slowly extend the lead in the second quarter and went ahead 27-14 after a Erica Haefele jumper with 5:31 to go in the half.  After consecutive baskets by Olivia Hoffman and Mackenzie Yori brought the score to 27-18 at the 4:35 mark, Paige Wampole scored on a lay-up for Misericordia to bring the score to 29-18.

Hoffman scored again for King's to cut the margin to 29-20 with 4:00 left, but as they did in the first quarter, the Cougars ended the second quarter with another 9-0 run to take a 38-20 lead the halftime break.

The second half would fare no better for King's, which was outscored 15-8 in the third quarter, giving the Cougars a 53-28 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Prociak led King's with 12 points and seven rebounds and was the only Lady Monarch to reach double-figures in scoring. Hoffman was second on the squad with just six points while adding eight rebounds and five blocks. Yori finished with five points.

King's made just 29-of-69 shots in the game and were 3-of-14 from three-point range. The Lady Monarchs were also outrebounded 52-33 and committed 19 turnovers compared to 16 for the Cougars.

Rachel Carmody led Misericordia with 15 points.

King's returns to the court Saturday with a 12:00 PM game at Wilkes University.
