Monarch Women’s Soccer Match Notes – Delaware Valley

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 19, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team will host the Delaware Valley University Aggies on Saturday at 5 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium for a crucial Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest. The Monarchs are currently sixth in the conference standings but can move up to fourth with a victory over the Aggies and losses or draws by FDU-Florham and Eastern.

Last Time Out: King's fell to DeSales 2-0 in Center Valley on Tuesday. The Bulldogs scored twice in the first 26 minutes of the match. The Monarchs had chances in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net.
 
The Aggies also were not able to overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit on the road as DVU fell to Eastern 2-1 on Tuesday in St. Davids. Calla Gibson scored for Delaware Valley with 19:38 remaining in the match.
 
The Book On The Monarchs (5-8-0, 2-3-0 MAC Freedom):
  • King's is still in contention for one of the final conference tournament berths with two matches remaining. The Monarchs are sixth in the standings, one point behind Eastern and FDU-Florham for the fourth spot and three points behind DeSales. FDU-Florham plays MAC Freedom qualifiers Misericordia and Wilkes in their final two matches while Eastern plays DeSales tomorrow before hosting the Monarchs next week.
  • The Monarchs are 5-17-1 all-time against Delaware Valley but have shut out the Aggies the past three seasons. KC has the most recent success in the series winning four of the past six meetings and are 3-0 since Del Val became a University.
  • Junior Danielle Putnam leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists. Both of her goals were game-winning goals which is the third-most in the MAC Freedom.
  • Three sophomores have contributed a lot to the offense for the Monarchs this year. Emily Harrington has scored two goals, including the game-winner against FDU-Florham, and has an assist. Emma Baumbusch and Stephanie Corea have recorded two assists each in the midfield.
  • Freshman defender Kara Keim scored her team-leading third goal of the year last week against Wilkes. All three of her goals have been wonderful blasts from distance. Keim scored her first two goals in a week span to be named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week on September 24th.
  • Junior Anna Lacalamita came off the bench last Saturday to score her first goal of the season. The midfielder has played in 12 of King's 13 matches this season making three starts.
  • Junior Sophia Sacknievich has also provided an offensive spark with two goals and an assist She scored both of her goals in the first two matches of the year and assisted on Keim's goal against Wilkes. She has worked her way into the starting lineup after beginning the season coming off the bench.
  • Freshman Tara Bender has been King's primary keeper this season and was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week a few weeks ago. She has recorded a 2.03 goals against average and a .731 save percentage. The freshman is 4-7 in 929:05 minutes of action while her 5.18 saves per match is fourth in the conference.
  • Junior Jess Schenfeld got the shutout victory in goal against Manhattanville last Saturday and has recorded a 1-1 record in four appearances this year. She has a 0.66 GAA and a .857 save percentage in 274:32 minutes of work.
The Book On The Aggies (4-10-0, 1-4-0 MAC Freedom):
  • Delaware Valley still has slim hopes of making the conference tournament needing to win their final two matches and get help. The Aggies have dropped their last three matches to FDU-Florham, Misericordia, and Eastern.
  • The Aggies are being outscored 28-8 this season but four of their five MAC Freedom matches have been decided by just one goal.
  • Delaware Valley ranks last in the conference in goals scored and shots taken. However, they are the nicest team in the conference ranking first in fewest fouls and fouls per match.
  • Kevin Doherty is in his 23rd season of leading the Aggies where he is the all-time leader in victories.
  • Sophomore Haley Young has seen a lot of action in net this year. She leads the conference and is 53rd in the nation with 7.71 saves per match. She has a 2.10 goals against average and a .797 save percentage in 1113:36 minutes while recording two shutouts.
  • Sophomore Sarah Young leads the offense with three goals including two game-winners. She scored in double overtime to lead the Aggies to their only conference victory of the year at Manhattanville.
  • Junior Calla Gibson has added two goals on the year including one game-winner. She scored Del Val's lone goal in Tuesday's loss at Eastern.
  • Senior Samantha Greim has recorded one goal and one assist for three points this season. Junior Erin Myers and Senior Taylor Boyer have scored a goal each while freshman Serena Zilli has added an assist.
Up Next: The Monarchs will play their final non-conference match of the year on Tuesday when they host Keystone College at 7 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
